Greetings,
Sunday Worship
Lent has begun. When I was a young kid in the United Church we didn’t hear much about Lent. It was something the Catholics did (and maybe some Anglicans), but we didn’t do it. However, by the time I got to university, the United Church and other churches of the Reformation had begun to look at some of the things that had been lost, in the attempt to rid the church of unnecessary excesses. It became apparent to some, that while the proliferation of Saints Days and Special Days and different levels of Celebrations did not seem helpful in one’s journey of faith, a year that moved through various times and phases did seem to be a helpful tool. The worship experience is not just about listening. Changes in colour and tone in the worship space serve to enhance and reinforce the focus of our worship, like signposts on a journey. What are the signposts in Lent?

In the time for the Story for all ages, we will be sharing in the ancient tradition of the Imposition of Ashes.
From the Scriptures we will hear from the Law: Deuteronomy 26:1-11, and from the Gospels: Luke 4: 1-13
The reflection is, “and lead us not into temptation”
Sunday
