Hello everyone,
Worship
This Sunday is Father’s Day, and I am not using the lectionary for the readings. I am going to be looking at the traditional “Father” language that has been used for God in the Christian Church, why this language is/was significant and what it can say to us in a time when many of us are moving (or trying to move) beyond gender specific parenting roles.

The
story for all ages will look at being part of the family of God, whom we can
call, if we want, “Abba, Father, Dad.”
The
Scripture Readings are: Romans 8: 1-17 and Luke 11: 1-13
The
Sermon title is “Our Father.”
During
the “Sharing our Celebrations” time, we will be witnessing a special
celebration involving Don Doyle. Come and see!

Spirit
West Community Garage Sale
The Spirit West Community Garage Sale will
be held on Saturday, June 15th from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Given
the weather forecast, we are setting up inside! While
you are shopping or when you take a break from your table, drop by the Garage
Sale Bistro for a hot dog. All proceeds to go to paying down the
mortgage. (note: the Garage Sale needs plastic grocery bags for
peoples purchases. You can drop them off at the Church tomorrow or bring
them to the sale Saturday)
Donations to the Building Fund
Those of you who use envelopes or are on
PAR know that you have the option of designating a portion of your offering for
the “Building Fund.” This fund was originally established as a
capital fund to pay for the building of the Spirit West church. The
building is built. However, we are still paying for it through the
mortgage. It was decided at the last Board meeting, that as of September
1st, 2013 money designated for “Building
Fund” through envelopes or PAR will be put
against the mortgage principal. Eventually, when new envelopes are ordered
and the PAR paper work completed, “Mortgage” will be an offering option
for both envelopes and PAR.
