Greetings
I
noted on the United Church wall calendar that this was Children’s Sunday.
Gathering had nothing really about it, except the heading. So I googled
“Children’s Sunday” and got a whole page of resources and services from the
United Church of Canada website. I chose
the theme from one of the services “ Christ plays in ten thousand
places.” I have not used that whole service but have taken ideas,
including the scripture readings, from it. The title comes from the
second part of the poem “As Kingfishers Catch Fire” by Gerard Manley Hopkins:
I
say more: the just man justices;
Keeps grace:
that keeps all his goings graces;Acts in God's eye what in God's eye he is —
Chríst — for Christ plays in ten thousand places,
Lovely in limbs, and lovely in eyes not his
To the Father through the features of men's faces.
The
readings from Scripture are Proverbs 8: 22-23, 30-31 and Luke 7: 31-35.
The
sermon is titled, “Christ plays in Ten Thousand Places”
