Greetings
Sunday Worship
The second Sunday of Advent is the
Sunday of Peace. However, the readings seem anything but peaceful, at
least in our usual “peace and quiet” sense. In both the readings there
seems to be a lot of construction going on. How does all that activity
equate with peace. But peace is not always quiet. As someone who
has been in areas of the world where peace is a rare commodity, I know that
when people are scared, they tend not to engage in the routine social
activities of daily life. When there is peace there is activity, people
can visit , travel, shop, and interact with those around them. Peace
allows everyone to do what needs to be done in their lives. But, peace
also requires work. We need to prepare the way of the Lord, the Prince of
Peace.
This Sunday is also White Gift
Sunday. We are looking for items of warm clothing in all sizes, hats,
scarves, mittens, socks and that sort of thing. In the past it was
tradition to wrap your gift in white paper so that all would be the same.
This year please don’t wrap your gifts, just put them in a bag. It
makes it easier for those who will eventually have to sort the gifts, and saves
on paper. The children will collect your gifts during the Service and put
them under our tree.
The readings for Sunday are, Isaiah
40: 1-11 and Mark 1: 1-8. The Time for All Ages Story is “Make a straight
path” and the Sermon title is “Prepare the Way of the Lord”
